User Management

FanFest uses roles to control what each member can do within your channel. You can assign roles from the User Management page to give team members the right level of access.

Accessing User Management

  1. Navigate to your channel
  2. Click the Settings gear icon
  3. Select User Management from the dropdown

Roles

FanFest has three built-in roles. Each role includes all the capabilities of the roles below it.

Fan

The default role for everyone who joins your channel. Fans can:

  • Participate in chat and ask questions during live shows
  • Join and vote in quizzes, raffles, and polls
  • Create and reply to discussion threads
  • Join the stage during a live show (audio/video)
  • Enter raffle drawings

Every new member automatically gets the Fan role.

Host

Hosts run your live content. In addition to all Fan capabilities, Hosts can:

  • Produce shows — start, manage, and run live shows
  • Manage shows — create, edit, schedule, and delete shows
  • Manage contests — create and manage quizzes, raffles, and polls
  • Moderate threads — pin, delete, and edit discussion threads

TIP

Assign the Host role to team members who run your live shows and manage day-to-day content. They don't need access to channel settings or sensitive configuration.

Admin

Admins have full control over the channel. In addition to all Host capabilities, Admins can:

  • Channel settings — modify all channel configuration, branding, and sections
  • User management — invite members, assign roles, manage permissions
  • API keys — create, revoke, and manage API keys
  • SSO configuration — set up identity providers and web apps
  • Behavioral Data Browser — access analytics, filter audiences, and run activations
  • Billing — manage subscriptions and membership tiers

WARNING

The Admin role grants access to everything including API keys and SSO configuration. Only assign it to trusted team members.

Managing Members

From the User Management page, Admins can:

  • View all channel members with their current roles
  • Change roles — promote or demote members between Fan, Host, and Admin
  • Invite new members to the channel with a specific role

Best Practices

  • Start with Fan — new members should start with the default Fan role. Only promote when needed.
  • Use Host for content creators — team members who run shows, create contests, and moderate threads should be Hosts, not Admins.
  • Limit Admin access — only core team members who need access to settings, API keys, and user management should be Admins.
  • Separate responsibilities — if someone only needs to create contests but not produce shows, they may still need the Host role today. Custom roles with granular permissions are planned for a future release.

Coming Soon

In a future release, channels will be able to create custom roles with granular permission control, allowing you to define exactly what each role can do. For now, the three built-in roles cover the most common access patterns.
